🔥Quote/Prompt
Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.
Use the quote as a writing or thinking prompt to finish your week strong.
A bit from mine:
(posted in our Doer Entrepreneurs Free Community — off social media)
Something has really been on my mind lately: This concept of suffering now for a later payoff.
It comes in a lot of forms:
Work 24/7 now until your business is successful and everything is rainbows and butterflies
Don't spend a penny if you can avoid it so that you can stop working as soon as possible.
And so on...
But the thing is...your life is happening right now. Our lives are right now. That doesn't mean we shouldn't plan for the future. But if it means not living today...that's a problem.
So this week, let's please consider whether you're really living today...and what would make you happy today. Not JUST tomorrow...or many tomorrows from now. […]

📈 Performance
Spoiler alert — they’re “I’ll do it anyway” but the article is worth the read. We often look at others who appear (and maybe are) more successful than we are in some way. Maybe they’re more “put together” or make more money, don’t seem to procrastinate, etc. And therefore, we assume those people do not ever feel scared or unsure of themselves when it comes to that thing.
This is actually completely false. The real difference is that those people go ahead and jump. They “do it anyway”. And if you do it anyway, you’ll be that person to someone else too. And most likely, you HAVE done it anyway in some area of your life or business.
So read this article and consider if there are areas in your life or business right now where you could benefit from a little grit. Here’s a little excerpt to get you started:
Going Beyond Your Comfort Zone
Another transformative aspect of this mindset is expanding one's comfort zone. Many people live within the confines of their comfort zones, avoiding risks and new experiences. While this may provide security, it also limits personal growth and opportunities. By acting despite discomfort or fear, individuals gradually push the boundaries of their comfort zones, opening up new possibilities and experiences.
Take Robert, a mid-career professional who had always been interested in writing but has yet to pursue it seriously due to his demanding job in finance. The thought of sharing his writing with others filled him with self-doubt.
One day, Robert decided to attend a local writer's workshop and committed to writing his first short story. "I'll do it anyway," he told himself. Robert's decision to step out of his comfort zone rekindled his passion for writing and led to his first published work. This experience expanded his horizons and brought a new sense of fulfillment to his life.

⚙️ Optimization
A lot of people LOVE the ‘FIRE’ (Financially Independent, Retire Early) movement but I’ll be honest, I love what I do so suffering by saving every penny to avoid continuing to do what I do does not speak to me personally. And it certainly isn’t Bill Gates vibe either, BUT that doesn’t mean we as business owners should not save and so I love this advice and thought it worth sharing as it is really a truly healthy balance in my opinion. So here goes:
The Pessimist’s Safety Net
Gates’ pessimistic approach to saving is exemplified by a practice he implemented in Microsoft’s early days. He insisted on always having enough cash in the bank to keep the company running for 12 months, even if revenue dropped to zero. This conservative strategy ensured Microsoft’s survival during potential downturns and provided a solid foundation for growth.
Great advice for us for our business and our personal bank account! Well done, Gates! Now onto the second part of his strategy:
The Optimist’s Growth Mindset
While maintaining a pessimistic approach to saving, Gates advocated for optimism in investments. He believed in the long-term potential of markets and technology, making bold bets that ultimately paid off. This optimistic outlook drove Microsoft’s innovation and expansion, contributing significantly to its dominant position in the tech industry.
Housel noted Gates’ approach is rooted in a deep understanding of market dynamics. He believes that long-term progress is the general trend while short-term setbacks are inevitable. By preparing for immediate challenges (the pessimist’s view) while remaining confident in future growth (the optimist’s perspective), Gates created a stellar strategy for sustained success.
The article gives a step-by-step on how to take action and implement this so I highly recommend reading it from a business owner perspective and a personal bank account perspective as well.
⏲️ Time Management
This article is written more for employees but it still has a lot of helpful advice especially since, as the business owner, WE are the ones in charge of a lot of this. But isn’t it interesting how many of us become our own worst boss instead of our own best boss? This article is a step toward some self-reflection on which way you are headed and how to make sure you’re headed where you want to be going. And even if you’re new here, surely you know I am in no way anti-productivity. I love it! But there is always such a thing as too much of a good thing. The excerpt below is one of 3 ways to ‘cure’ toxic productivity but I also love how the article talks about the causes and personality types (perfectionists, looking at you!) so it’s worth the read.
2. Reframe Your Thoughts About Productivity
Perhaps you have conditioned yourself to believe that you must be productive at all costs. This can lead to putting in long work hours and working to the point of exhaustion.
If you have this mindset, it can be helpful to reframe your thoughts. Working too long can lead to fatigue, which ultimately hurts your productivity.
If you’re working excessively because of toxic productivity, consider the effects of fatigue on your performance. Taking a break is likely to come with benefits.
💻 Tools & Technology
If you don’t know Perplexity, it is worth checking out. (not sponsored!) My favorite thing is that it cites its sources so you can easily fact-check it and make sure it’s pulling from legitimate sources that you trust. But it is getting an upgrade! Here’s an excerpt but read the whole article for the full scoop!
The upgraded Pro Search now provides even greater search results. When toggled on in the search bar, Perplexity will explore deeper and link to a broader range of sources, displaying its step-by-step process as well. Pro Search is accessible to all users, with a limit of five free uses every four hours. Perplexity AI also has a Pro subscription with much more access to Pro Search.
Perplexity points to the newly advanced multi-step reasoning as a central pillar in the upgraded chatbot. The AI now understands when a question requires a multifaceted approach and works through goals step-by-step. The search AI doesn’t just bring back the results; it also analyzes them and takes action based on what it determines.
So, for instance, it may conduct follow-up searches based on the earlier results as a way of making what the user sees as comprehensive and accurate as possible.
🤖 AI
I’m including this in this newsletter because I think even for those of us who aren’t programmers/developers, this is a concept to keep an eye on. At some point, just like almost anyone can build a website using tools like Wordpress, Wix and Squarespace, AI bots are headed the same direction. This is already the case with ChatGPT (though I tried it and it still leaves a lot to be desired).
Still, this concept is happening and this startup seems to be in the early stages of doing it so I suspect that we will see lots more niche AI-style (LLM) products popping up. Worth a quicker read just to be sure you’re aware of this development in the AI landscape. Excerpt below:
What Solution is provided by Automorphic?
Developers can easily enhance their bespoke LLMs with Automorphic. They must input their raw text data, launch a first fine-tuning run, and keep tweaking as required.
Just change one line to point to Automorphic’s endpoint instead of OpenAI’s API. To enhance their model, users can experiment with inference and RLHF. In addition, users can train adapters with more data, which they can then combine and commute with as they see fit.
Lastly, the hub allows users to test existing models and publish customized ones.
