You create your opportunities by asking for them.

Use the quote as a writing or thinking prompt to finish your week strong.

A bit from mine:

(posted in our Doer Entrepreneurs Free Community — off social media)

I know this is one of those quotes that we all kind of know but...sometimes it's nice to read it and remember it.

One of the things a lot of entrepreneurs fear is being told 'no' but you know what's worse? When we tell ourselves 'no' before the other person/client/company/etc. even has a chance.

Often, we also waste […]

📈 Performance

This article was a really interesting take on these habits and how they affect us. In particular, it gives you strategies on how to adjust things that might feel “unfixable” like fear of failure. Another thing that was really interesting here was how common these behaviors are and how many of us might not associate them with having anything to do with confidence but reading the article, they really do. Below is the section on Negative self-talk. But check out all 10 in the article.

1) Negative self-talk

We all have that little voice in our heads.

The one that pipes up with commentary and judgments on everything we do.

Unfortunately, for many of us, that voice tends to be overly critical.

Negative self-talk is a habit that can seriously undermine your confidence.

It’s a vicious cycle – you make a mistake, the voice in your head berates you, and your confidence takes a hit.

But here’s the thing. That voice isn’t always right.

It’s often wrong.

We tend to be our own harshest critics, but that doesn’t mean we have to listen to the negativity.

Instead, try to cultivate a more balanced perspective.

By saying goodbye to negative self-talk, you’ll be taking a huge step towards becoming a more confident person.

Trust me, your self-esteem will thank you for it.

⚙️ Optimization

Self-awareness is our greatest productivity tool and this article is a scientific-backed explanation of why you might be making decisions at the wrong time of day — FOR YOU. It’s a great article that allows us to gain additional insight into how our brain works, and how we might not be capitalizing on our most productive moments.

Below is the section from the article on how to make better decisions but check out the full article for all of the effects this has.

Make Better Decisions

In general terms, your prefrontal cortex is in charge of complex cognitive behavior like expressing your personality, moderating social behavior, and weighing situations to make decisions. The more complex the decision, the more involved your prefrontal cortex gets. (You don't have to decide to run away from a wasp.)

Again speaking generally, research published in Cognition found that you're more likely to think a situation through and make a good decision in the morning, before you're physically tired and may have fallen prey to decision fatigue. (Oddly enough, quick decisions -- like running away from that wasp -- are better made in the afternoon.)

We found reliable diurnal rhythms in activity and decision-making policy.

During the morning, players adopt a prevention focus policy (slower and more accurate decisions) which is later modified to a promotion focus (faster but less accurate decisions), without daily changes in performance.

As a result: Save your big decisions for the morning.

Unless you're a night owl; then make important decisions during your version of the "morning." A study published in Chronobiology International showed that for night owls,, brain areas responsible for cognition are at their peak in the nighttime. That's when your prefrontal cortex kicks cognitive butt.

⏲️ Time Management

In case you’re scratching your head — yes they’re slightly different. Put simply:

“By increasing productivity, you can complete more projects in the same timeframe. Boosting efficiency means using fewer resources to accomplish the same amount of work.”

The article goes through a few concepts you might be familiar with already (like time blocking) but the most interesting one was the massive effect that “single-tasking” can have. Check out that section below and click the link above to check out the remaining tips

Embrace single-tasking

We live in a fast-paced world where multitasking is all too common. However, the human brain isn't designed to focus on more than one complex task at a time. When you switch back and forth between projects, you lose focus, time and momentum. Instead of juggling multiple demands, focus on one task at a time to get more done and feel less stressed. Single-tasking also boosts creativity so you can generate high-quality work.

💻 Tools & Technology

Have you ever picked up your phone to turn off a timer or check the time and suddenly you’re on social media, replying to a text or something else — and you have no idea what time it is?

Enter this gadget. If you’re a Pomodoro timer person (working 25 min, break for 5, and repeat) — a solid productivity hack — but you get distracted by your phone — this is a great solution. It’s also aesthetically pleasing.

Disclosure — no affiliate association and we haven’t tested it directly, but it looks like it could be really useful for a lot of people.

👀 Read, Watch, Listen

This week’s awesome books, YouTube videos, newsletters, etc. to add to your list!

One thing to note about this book — it is old so some references are very outdated but the concepts, if you can master them, are game-changing.

From Amazon:

E-Myth \ 'e-,'mith\ n 1: the entrepreneurial myth: the myth that most people who start small businesses are entrepreneurs 2: the fatal assumption that an individual who understands the technical work of a business can successfully run a business that does that technical work

Voted #1 business book by Inc. 500 CEOs.

An instant classic, this revised and updated edition of the phenomenal bestseller dispels the myths about starting your own business. Small business consultant and author Michael E. Gerber, with sharp insight gained from years of experience, points out how common assumptions, expectations, and even technical expertise can get in the way of running a successful business.

Gerber walks you through the steps in the life of a business—from entrepreneurial infancy through adolescent growing pains to the mature entrepreneurial perspective: the guiding light of all businesses that succeed—and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Most importantly, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business.
