🔥Quote/Prompt

A year from now you will wish you had started today.

A bit from mine:

(posted in our Doer Entrepreneurs Free Community — off social media)

It is absolutely insane what can be done in a year by making just a tiny bit of consistent effort.

2 years ago I suffered one of the worst injuries of my life. I could barely type, couldn't chop vegetables or hold a coffee cup, and definitely could not do physical activity. It changed my life. It took almost 1 year to diagnose.

1 year ago, I had a procedure to repair the damage. The recovery felt endless. And yes, that means I was like that for a year.

2 weeks ago, I hit multiple lifetime personal bests rock climbing.

It is crazy to think I couldn't hold a coffee cup a year ago and then I hit a personal lifetime best in a sport that requires a strong grip.

Where could you be if you just started with a tiny effort, but made it every Month? Week? Day?

This week, ask yourself this: what's the smallest version of the thing you're trying to do? Do that. But do it consistently.

Did someone forward this to you?

📌 Productivity Quick Tip

📈 Performance

Let’s be honest, ALL humans prefer instant gratification. It is hard to put in incremental efforts for a reward we don’t see until much later. But part of our ability to continue to do this without seeing the reward…yet is motivation and in this article the author talks about intensely focusing on your why. I can absolutely confirm that this works and the article includes the science behind it. My favorite one is below because, between the Doers Inner Circle and my friend circle in San Diego, I credit my surroundings hugely for my ability to continue towards my own why. All 6 tips are really great though!

6. Build a Supportive Community

Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share your values and goals fosters encouragement, accountability, and a sense of belonging. Engaging in group activities, joining clubs, or participating in online forums can help build these connections and provide valuable support. Additionally, these interactions offer diverse perspectives and constructive feedback, which can further enhance your personal growth. Regular reassessments and group activities ensure that you stay aligned with your objectives, promote continuous development, and sustain motivation.

⚙️ Optimization

A lot of my clients are introverts and, as a result, often feel they are not built for things like sales (cue the used car salesman image in their minds). But in fact, introversion can be a huge asset to sales and many other aspects of building and growing a business. I love taht this article points that out and gets specific. Below is just a tiny snippet so if you’re introverted (or work with introverted people) definitely check out the full article.

Advantages of Introvert Leadership

Being an introvert can have its advantages when it comes to being a leader. Often, introverts are great listeners and thinkers, good at analyzing information and finding solutions to problems that might be original or out of the box.

Dan Woodruff, an executive coach and the founder of Odin Strategies, describes listening as a “natural superpower” for introverts, explaining, “Doing more listening than talking comes naturally to them. By using this ability to lead with empathy, introverts can engage in active listening, which increases their likability and helps them understand their team’s needs and concerns deeply.”

If you’re an introverted leader, and somebody comes to you with a question or issue, you might be better placed to consider what they have to say and offer sensible, well-thought-out advice. This comes back to effective communication—a key aspect of communication is listening, and this is where introverts can often excel.

⏲️ Time Management

I freaking LOVE this article because it’s exactly what I talk about when I discuss the “build the bucket” productivity method. In this article, the author discusses how to train your brain and the fact that 100 words x 365 days = 73,000 words. But for most of us, the task of writing 73,000 words seems like a monumental task. In fact, I just recently listened to this podcast discussing well-known author James Patterson and how he focuses on writing an outline only for every book. And in one case, his outline ended up being 200 pages long…and he realized he’d basically written the book. But for him, he was “only writing an outline.” Our brains are so interesting, aren’t they? Check out this article if you have big goals, even if it’s not writing a book.

Training your brain

But more than the words on the page—which add up!—the genius of the 15 daily minutes is that the real secret to writing a novel, or achieving any long-term artistic goal, is time spent thinking about the thing you’re creating. You can’t write a novel without hours and hours spent considering the world you’re building, the people you’re creating, the problems they’ll encounter, and the route it will take for them to get to the end of their journey.

To do all that, you need to spend a lot of time walking around with the novel in your brain. Spending even just 15 minutes each day “with” your novel means that it will always be present in your mind. Nurture that presence when you aren’t writing. Cut down on podcasts when you’re walking or driving. Give yourself quiet. Tell yourself: I’m going to think about the next scene I need to write while I go through this car wash, or walk to the grocery store, or wait for my son’s lacrosse practice to end.

Keep a notebook with you to jot down plot ideas and snippets of dialogue. Or, use your phone to dictate messages to yourself, though your phone can be very dangerous as a distraction, so beware.

🤖 AI

Well, I kind of regret hitting play on the embedded sound recording. But, I am definitely trying to stay up to date on where various tools are in their development. It’s pretty creepy. Here’s a quick excerpt:

With the US presidential election just a few months away and election deepfakes front of mind, I was caught off guard by ChatGPT’s willingness to provide vocal impressions of a major candidate. ChatGPT generated imitations of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as well, but the voices didn’t sound as close as the bot’s take on Trump’s speech.

While the tool is best at English, it can switch between multiple languages within the same conversation. OpenAI red-teamed the GPT-4o model using 45 languages. When I set up two phones with Advanced Voice Mode and had them talk to each other like friends, the bots easily moved between French, German, and Japanese at my request. Although, I do need to spend more time testing to gauge how well the chatbot’s translation feature really works and its weak points.

🎉 Celebration Corner

Every week Doers Inner Circle members do a weekly review & get help when they need it — check out the progress they made this week!

  • Decided to hire my son as an intern for the month: it will help him to gain more experience and me to move needle forward + I need to overcome my fear/reluctance of hiring somebody

  • Planned and attended the off-days or half-days of our family staycation; finished feeding my excel sheet for financial closing

  • I tried to stay as intentional as I could + kept up confidence work most of the time

  • As anticipated, I spent most of this week on billable work (which is also a necessity.) And I got training for a client together within 3 days on short notice. 🥳
